Frequently Asked Questions

  • Direct primary care is a model of healthcare that returns to the roots of medicine. Not that long ago, directly contacting your doctor and home visits were the norm. As a member, you receive all well-child checks, unlimited sick visits and direct access to speak with Dr. Laura. Memberships are affordable and allow for predictable planning of your family’s yearly budget. When averaged per day, your monthly membership is less than what a latte costs from your local coffee shop.

  • What sets Willow Pediatric Wellness apart from traditional pediatric practices is our hands-on approach to care and return to the roots of medicine. While we have come a long way in health outcomes in recent years, we have not necessarily become healthier as a country. At Willow Pediatric Wellness, the focus is on prevention and treating the body as a whole. Unlike conventional practices, Dr. Laura keeps her patient panel small to prioritize a close, personal connection with each family she serves. Additionally, Dr. Laura is who you are speaking with when you contact the office, eliminating delays in answering your questions about your child’s health.

The membership model allows for more time during appointments, fostering deeper relationships and better understanding of your child's unique needs. This means Dr. Laura can provide more comprehensive and preventative care while addressing concerns promptly and thoroughly. With a focus on continuity of care, Dr. Laura strives to be not just your pediatrician, but a trusted partner to help your child thrive.

  • Dr. Laura looks at all aspects of the body and health as a whole picture instead of separate, unrelated symptoms. Combining the best available scientific evidence with alternative treatments, she tailors recommendations and interventions to each child's unique needs. Dr. Laura focuses on prevention of health problems through lifestyle changes.

Furthermore, Willow Pediatric Wellness recognizes the significance of integrative medicine in our holistic care approach. Integrative medicine involves combining conventional medical treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies, like mindfulness and chiropractic, to improve health outcomes for children. By embracing both evidence-based conventional medicine and complementary therapies, Dr. Laura ensures that her patients receive comprehensive treatment that supports their growth, development, and overall health.

  • As a direct primary care practice, Willow Pediatric Wellness does not contract with any health insurance carriers, including Medicaid. Health insurance was not created with the idea of helping your child stay healthy by preventing sickness. We have decided to take a different approach and stop trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. By not accepting health insurance and using a membership based model, we maintain small patient panels to guarantee your child receives the dedicated time they deserve.

Vaccines and third party labs can be billed to your insurance or you can choose to pay a cash price.

We are unable to provide Vaccine for Children (VFC) vaccines currently at our office.

  • Yes! Willow Pediatric Wellness is not health insurance. We recommend all patients continue with a major insurance carrier in the event of severe injury or illness, hospitalization or specialty care. Think of health insurance as your support for those unexpected boo-boos and tumbles, just like how your car insurance has your back for those surprise breakdowns on the road but you would never expect it to cover general maintenance like an oil change or tire rotation.

  • We are so excited you want to join Willow Pediatric Wellness! Once you complete the online contact form, we will contact you by the following business day to arrange a meet and greet with Dr. Laura. If our practice is the right fit, you will then complete our member enrollment forms which ensures we have all the information we need to provide the best care for your child. If your family enrolls prior to clinic opening, your enrollment fee is waived and you will not be charged until we officially begin seeing patients.

  • Your monthly membership fee includes:

    • Well visits (check-ups) | While once a year after age 2, Dr. Laura recognizes that your child will undergo significant changes within a year and would love to see you more frequently (recommended every 4 to 6 months).

    • In-home visits (within 15 minute driving range from the clinic), with appointments in our office space as deemed necessary.

    • Unlimited sick visits, either in-person or through tele-health, ensuring prompt care for your child's health concerns.

    • In depth, personalized health plan including nutrition, development, sleep, toileting, behavior, and parenting strategies.

    • Convenient in-house testing for strep throat, flu, RSV, and COVID.

    • Form completion (School/camp/sports physical), ensuring your child meets all necessary requirements for participation.

    • Management of minor trauma, injuries, and lacerations, offering treatments such as splinting, suturing, skin glue, staples and wound management.*

    • All developmental and behavioral screenings and coordinating care with PT/OT/Speech and other therapies when needed.

    • Management of chronic health conditions including eczema, asthma, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and more.

*Complex in-office procedures may incur nominal supply fee (to be discussed at time of service)

  • Any care outside of our office, including specialty care, send-out labs, emergency room/urgent care visits and hospitalization is not included in your membership fee. Additionally, vaccines are not covered by the member fee and will either be billed to your insurance or you can pay a cash price if you choose.

And don’t worry, testing or supplies that will incur additional fees will always be discussed prior to service!

  • Yes! Dr. Laura is dedicated to being there for you and your child whenever you need her. While you have direct access to her at any time, including nights and weekends, we ask that after-hours calls be reserved for true urgent needs (she needs sleep and devoted time with her family). For non-urgent concerns, feel free to shoot her a message when your question is fresh (even 3AM when you are up feeding your newborn), and if she doesn’t answer that evening, she'll be sure to address them first thing in the morning when the office opens!

In-person after hours visits are not guaranteed. If it is determined that your child needs an in-person after hours visit, Dr. Laura will make reasonable efforts to see your child or direct you to an after hours clinic.

Examples of urgent concern: laceration that occurs after office closing time or your child is having difficulty breathing.

Examples of non-urgent concerns: tylenol/motrin dosing or other general clinical question, appointment scheduling, or prescription refills.

If you are concerned your child has a medical emergency or a situation that could reasonably develop into a medical emergency, you are to call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency department.

  • Yes! We believe that all children will benefit from personalized pediatric care, whether they have chronic medical conditions or not. Imagine your child wakes up one morning with severe ear pain, instead of struggling to get an appointment at a traditional pediatric practice, you just let Dr. Laura know your child needs to be seen and she sees you first thing when we open. Or your child falls and gets a deep cut, instead of having to go to an Urgent Care or Emergency Department, you send her a picture of the injury and she meets you at the office to take care of it. Dr. Laura also believe well checks should happen more than once a year! She wants to know how your child is doing and help troubleshoot any concerns as soon as they arise. All of these services are included with your monthly membership* without co-pays or surprise bills.

*certain procedures may incur nominal supply fee.

  • In the event of an emergency, or a situation which could be reasonably expected to develop into an emergency, you are expected to call 9-1-1 and go to the nearest Emergency Room and follow the direction of emergency personnel.

  • One of the best things about being a member of Willow is that Dr. Laura is happy to help even if you are out of town! If your child gets sick or you have a health question, you can contact her just as you would when you are home. Many things can be addressed over the phone or with a tele-health visit but if you need in-person care she can help guide you to a nearby clinic.

  • When Dr. Laura is out of town or unavailable, another pediatrician in the area will provide back-up coverage for her should your child need to be seen in person during our regular office hours. In most cases, even if Dr. Laura is out of town, she will still be able to assist you via phone or tele-health visits but response times could be delayed.

  • As an evidence-based pediatrician, Dr. Laura firmly believes in the safety and efficacy of childhood immunizations and recommend adhering to the CDC immunization schedule. She accommodates delayed and alternate schedules.

She understands that you may have questions about immunizations and wants to be a trusted source of information for all areas of your child’s health.

She also believes that no child should be denied care based on vaccine status and does not have any vaccine requirement for members.

*Willow Pediatric Wellness does not accept children under 6 months of age who have not received, nor plan to receive, Vitamin K.

We only accept infants of home births whose parent was under midwifery care throughout pregnancy and birth.

  • We recommend you contact your health representative at your insurance company and consult with your tax advisor to determine if your plan’s policy allows you to use HSA or FSA funds to cover membership fees.

  • We have a limited amount of services available for non-members to allow us to focus on our primary patients. Non-member services include urgent care services, medical grade ear piercing and sports/camp physicals.

Our non-member services are primarily offered on select weekends (Fri-Sun) with appointment priority given to our members.

  • While we will miss you and hate to have you go, we understand that our model is not the right fit for every family. We require a 30 day written notice prior to ending your membership.

  • A limited number of scholarships are available to provide financial assistance.
